Gesprächsstoff mit Alex Amir Khan | IfTF - Institut für Textiles Forschen, Basel

Gesprächsstoff is an ongoing event series of talks organised by the IfTF – Institut für Textiles Forschen, inviting guests to explore and discuss textile craftsmanship from multiple perspectives.

During his 2024/25 studio residencies in Mexico and Brazil, designer Alexander Amir Khan researched the coating of textiles with natural latex to develop a water-repellent and versatile biomaterial.
Developed between Mexico, Brazil, and Switzerland, his work investigates sustainable material cycles and the cultural narratives embedded in latex production.

In collaboration with Atelier Mangas el Compita and Manga San Gabriel (Veracruz and Puebla, Mexico), as well as the collective DaTribu on Cotijuba Island, Belém do Pará (Brazil), Khan has created new latex-based textiles that combine craft, ecology, and design research.
His presentation at IfTF Basel introduces this ongoing project LATX Biomaterials, tracing the intersections between traditional knowledge, contemporary design, and responsible material innovation.

Date: 14 November 2025
Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM
