LATX Biomaterials merges handcrafted tradition with material experimentation, uniting natural latex with organic, mineral, and other inorganic pigments to create surfaces where innovation and heritage coexist.

OAXACA Collection

A dialogue between earth and light, between the tactile and the ephemeral — transforming craft into contemporary expression.

Developed with the artisans of Mangas El Compita and Mangas San Gabriel, each piece merges natural latex with organic and mineral pigments, handcrafted within small communities that keep a living heritage alive.

These pilot materials can now be commissioned or ordered to support the ongoing development of LATX Biomaterials and its collaboration with Mangas El Compita and Mangas San Gabriel.

Realized within the Pro Helvetia Design Framework, with the grateful support of Pro Helvetia Switzerland.

Natural Pigments

Organic Pigments

Composed of organic matter such as wood, insects, flowers, roots, bark, seeds — and repurposed waste.
A living material that embodies the beauty of natural transformation.

LATX Rubberised Textiles | Oaxaca Collection (organic)

In the Oaxaca Collection every surface is hand-coated with natural latex and tinted with vibrant organic based pigments that bring the material vividly to life. Each work is built up in multiple layers, creating subtle tonal depth and texture variations that reflect the rhythm of the hand and the conditions of making.

Dimensions: Each panel ranges approximately from 2.00 × 2.5 m up to 2.00 × 5 m and weighs 1.5 - 4 kg
Water-repellent, durable, and soft to the touch
Subtle variations in colour and texture are inherent to the process
Produced in collaboration with Mangas San Gabriel and Mangas El Compita

Produced in limited editions, each panel is individually crafted within the pilot phase of LATX Biomaterials, supporting the development of sustainable, community-based material practices.
Due to the natural pigments and artisanal coating process, colour values vary slightly, and over time the material develops a rich patina — an evolving surface that documents both time and touch.¨

Handmade to order – please allow approx. 1.5 months for production.

Mineral Pigments

Recovered and refined in environmentally friendly processes, these pigments are particularly lightfast.

LATX Rubberised Textiles | Oaxaca Collection (mineral)

In the Oaxaca Collection every surface is hand-coated with natural latex and tinted with vibrant, highly lightfast mineral pigments that bring the material vividly to life. Each work is built up in multiple layers, creating subtle tonal depth and texture variations that reflect the rhythm of the hand and the conditions of making.
