Lake pigments are a special type of pigment used in painting and dyeing, exclusively derived from organic sources such as plant parts, wood, or insects. I learned this technique from Maddalena Forcella and further developed it in collaboration with Nereida Bonmati during my stay in Oaxaca | Mexico, with the aim of utilizing it to dye latex with colors of organic origin. These pigments are produced by precipitating dyes onto a carrier material, typically an aluminum compound. This process creates highly concentrated, more or less lightfast colors that are well-suited for the production of paints and inks. Lake pigments are often used in art, especially in watercolor painting, as well as in industrial applications such as the food and cosmetic industries.
