(Re-)encounters – Atelier Mondial, Basel

Group Exhibition curated by Keabetswe Boccomino
With: Sara Gassmann, Alexandre Kyungu, Juanita Delgado, Simone Etter, Irene Piloya, Alexander Amir Khan, Hannah Kindler, Deirdre O’Leary, Saba Niknam, Kihako Narisawa

Exactly ten years ago, in November 2014, the international exchange programme Atelier Mondial moved into its newly built premises on the Dreispitz campus. With the creation of Salon Mondial and Cuisine Mondiale, new spaces for exchange emerged — bringing together artists and neighbours in dialogue.

The group exhibition (Re-)encounters reflects on this past decade through the works of ten Atelier Mondial fellows. Curated by Keabetswe Boccomino, the show engages with materiality, memory and connection as recurring motifs. The exhibition transforms Salon Mondial into a multifaceted space of encounter, inviting visitors to engage with the artists and their processes.

Alexander Amir Khan presents a selection of works developed between Mexico, Brazil and Switzerland, which explore the material and political dimensions of natural latex. His project connects design research, craft collaboration and material performance, tracing how latex can function as both medium and metaphor — a living, flexible surface linking traditional knowledge and contemporary design.
