A Hamam for you

My graduation work, is about creating a collection that turns your bathroom into a Hamam. Inspired by Orient and Occident, I combine oriental rituals with Swiss lifestyle. With an appealing and tempting colour concept, the uni Peshtemals are printed using a screen printing process with reactive ink. In order to combine Turkey and Switzerland, I get inspiration for my motifs from the Economy Archive in Schwanden Glarus. The Region and its textile industry was famous for their printed textiles and the Ottoman Empire used to be one of its best clients.

Final collection Orient meets Occident | Triptychon I - inspired by The Bath - Walsh Robert & Allom Thomas - 1836

Final collection Orient meets Occident | Triptychon II - inspired by old wooden printing stamps - Wirtschaftsarchiv, Glarus - 1880

Final collection Orient meets Occident | Single Motiv - geometrical openings at the dome of a Hamam - Istanbul

I found old motifs and brought them into a new contemporary context. In doing so, I played with principles such as reduction, dimensions, surface/space and the nonexistence of colours. The previous motives, were redesigned and executed in black and white, where as the white is the actual colour of the Peshtemal.
