All Eyez On Me

I have been commissioned to create a textile collection inspired by the artwork of Enrique Congo. The pile of drafts and sketches from Congo are the starting point for this project - my All Eyez On Me project. Products such as printed home textiles and home goods - upholstery fabrics, cushion, table runners, ceramics, wallpaper or smaller everyday objects for the bureau are planned. For the future I want to tackle the wearable market with some fresh and authentic designs.

What is the plan?

First of all, I will digitally process the photos of the sketches. As soon as the photos are digitally prepared it is possible to recolour, repeat, enlarge or otherwise rearrange the elements. As soon as all motives are separated and trimmed and colours are determined the design process can go further and new textiles or surfaces will be created.

What fascinates about this project?

Diverse.

I am fascinated by the inner struggle and wishes of the artist which for me clearly emerges from the artwork. The spectrum of colours the sketches show is very diverse, from deep dark frustration to bright and vivid.

Personal.

The artwork of Congo has a very personal note. As a designer I see my biggest challenge in this project in taking up all this personality and creating something new out of it.
